Bangkok Bank Berhad started its journey in Malaysia on 23 January 1959 as the Kuala Lumpur branch of Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited. The Bank subsequently changed its status to a locally incorporated foreign bank on 12 May 1994.

The Bank has one wholly-owned subsidiary, BBL Nominees (Tempatan) Sdn. Bhd. and its principal activity is provision of nominee services.
